1. Pens/pencil
I say this and I stress it because you don't know how many people ask me for one. Even my brother who is a senior. You could be that mean person who only keeps one for yourself or you could be nice and always have a spare or two on you. Either way....keep pencils. It's very embarrassing coming to class with no pencil....especially on test day. (My roommate "borrowed" all 8 of my pencils for a trivia night back in February and STILL hasn't returned them.)
2. Paper
Even if you keep notes on your computer always keep a few pieces of scrap paper around. Today in my history class we watched a movie and they gave us an essay that was due at the end of class.
3. A water bottle
This comes in handy. Water is free at any place you go on campus. Here at auburn they even have these cool water refill stations. If you go to ABP, (an on campus restaurant in the student center) keep the cup and stow it in your book bag and use it for the next time you go there. It can really save you money!! I keep mine (and wash it after every use) for a good two or so weeks. It's a good quality plastic.
4. An umbrella/poncho
Check at the beginning of the week or the beginning of the day (especially in the spring) to see what the weather is like. If you see rain, definitely pack a small umbrella (at walmart or target for cheap!) or a poncho (dollar store). If you live on campus or walk to campus DEFINITELY pack one. They come in handy.
5. Girly products
Don't wanna be caught off guard...guys...obviously you can ignore this.
6. Chapstick
Having hydrated lips is a must. Don't want to walk around with crusty lips!
7. Your wallet
For your tiger card/money/other cards. Make sure you keep your tiger & ignited card on you at ALL times!! You never know when a friend calls to go to a baseball game and you want to go right after class. Or if you want to grab food.
**TIP FOR AUBURN STUDENTS!** Memorize your 9033 number. It comes in handy when you're taking a test/ filing out paper work instead of having to get out your tiger card. It's a lot easier if you memorize it.
8. Head phones/Ear phones
Never know when you wanna listen to music!
9. YOUR ICLICKER
Some classes, especially sciences love to use the iclicker. It is a little remote that allows you to submit answers to online questions. Some classes use it to take attendance and others use it for mini quizzes. If I have a class that needs it then I keep it in there at all times so I don't have to worry about not having it.
10. A planner
I would get one at the beginning of the year so you can write down assignments, test dates and other information. That way when you see a friend on campus and ask what you're doing this weekend you can pull it out and look at it. I like to use an actual planner and not one on my phone. It's up to you, but I'd HIGHLY recommend you to keep some type of planner. It's easy to double book or forget things. It's a good thing to start doing.
Here are some other items that aren't a must to keep in your back pack, but something that is helpful.
-Your computer/tablet
-An eno (I pack mine on sunny days when I have a break in my schedule.)
-Phone charger/computer charger
-A small packet of tissues.
-Candy. Yes, candy.
-Glasses if you need them/wear them
-Sun glasses
There are days where you're going to be on campus all day so be prepared. I also pack my book bag the night before so I am not in a hurry and forget something. I sometimes bring a football or cards on certain days for in between classes/during breaks. I always have a friend who is up to play! At Auburn there are many places to throw a football or do something. There are people who walk on tight ropes, play Frisbee, or even hula hoop. There are many activities to get into. So just be prepared and have fun! Those 10 that I listed above are a must to keep in your book bag. The others are just suggestions. Oh, and don't forget your books ;)

p.s. I attend a beautiful school :)
